Since it doesn't seem like we're going to afford a new camera before Hazel comes, I decided to practice my indoor camera skills on my current favorite subjects -- our Furbabies!
I cheated for the most part and took photos near windows with alot of light. The only pic that wasn't near a window was Sorcha's and I had to really fudge with it in my photo editing program to make it look decent.

They look pretty good to me, but I hear ya on the messing with the light thing. Besides, furbabies are not always easy to photograph. At least mine aren't. They know the sound the camera makes now and turn away too fast. I think they don't like the flash. Plus, my new camera seems to take a little longer to actually snap the picture, so I get alot of blurry stuff when I take kitty pics. If I hadn't given my old camera to Angela I'd be happy to send it your way. It took great indoor pics. I'm sure you've tried this already, but have you practiced on all the settings? I know my camera has settings I don't even know what I'd use them for. A new one I recently discovered was the portrait setting. So far I've only used it to take self-portraits, but it does seem to take a nicer shot. Maybe your new apartment will have better light. And like you said, you can make it work with some touch-ups. You may just have to wait until Hazel is like 12 to be able to do it! :P
My other bit of advice is to take a million pictures...even if you think they suck! That's the beauty of digital, you can always delete later. Besides, if you don't take a million pictures to send to Aunt Misty, you'll be hearing about it!!!!!!!!!!
